Fruits and vegetables contain a variety of health promoting compounds, many acting as powerful antioxidants that quench free radicals, support immunity, and generally protect the human body. Antioxidants for the Immune System

Antioxidants for Eye Health
Light entering the eye may generate free radicals. Eye health requires adequate antioxidants to prevent free radical damage, the normal defense system of the eye for maintaining health. It has been discovered that lutein and zeaxanthin are major components of the macular pigment of the retina. These nutrients are potent antioxidants. A dose of 20 mg of lutein per day has been found to be highly supportive of eye health and vision, especially when taken in combination with other antioxidants.*

Vitamin C, E, Bioflavonoids
Vitamin C is the most important water-soluble antioxidant, capable of neutralizing many types of free radicals.* Vitamin C is required for proper immune system function as well as collagen synthesis.*
Humans are the only mammal that does not synthesize vitamin C from glucose, which is believed to be the result of an inappropriate gene mutation. Under stress all other mammals produce considerable vitamin C, leading many researchers to suggest higher doses of vitamin C for optimal health, especially to compensate for stress.*
Vitamin C works synergistically with bioflavonoids to support capillary health. In Daily Protector we include bioflavonoids from bilberry and grapes. Grape extracts are excellent antioxidants in and of themselves, contributing to this synergistic antioxidant formulation. As vitamin C is used to quench free radicals it is "recycled" back to an antioxidant by various antioxidant enzymes.
